About Clepto

Devoted to the band and each other, Clepto was formed in 2000 in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. With no Saudi roots but only fathers that simply moved to the country for work, they began the intake of different cultures that surrounded their everyday lives and made it their mission to speak of all they see, hear, and feel. Fred and Phil, two brothers originally moving from Cyprus have Armenian and Lebanese parents adopted Canada as the next home; this is where Alex and Nick are from. Alex, a Portuguese-Canadian Toronto born Punkrock Montréaler and Nick a Greek-Canadian Winnipeg born Metalhead both lead the way with their lyrics covering all aspects from culture, global issues, religions to personal conflicts and psychological reflections of themselves in society. (The latter usually covered by Niko’s contributions). Together, with as sing and a bounce from Phil and Fred’s Mediterranean melodic basss and drums, they all complete Clepto.

Recently fully committing to the fact that this is who they are and this is the direction of life they want to take, they have together created Olystis Music and Productions. Their own label that, even though in it’s early stages, is gaining momentum, already recording their second Clepto album and brining on their friends from Dani Nash and The Villains to record their upcoming album at Jailbird Studios in Ottawa.

Clepto’s first Album, on Stolen Records, was recorded in B-side studios in 2005 and has been produced and distributed by Olystis. As this was a handmade approach, hence the name Handmade, there has been around 200 sold and given out in the past years. Their next album, being released mid-2010, bears the name Sonic Rape. An album completely recorded, produced and mixed by Olystis and has been in the making for the last 2 years.

A Band and Label; though a hard feat to accomplish as they have never all lived in the same city since their inception, they have been dedicated and have sworn in to their duties as Clepto and have found their lives through this.

Even though 8 years has passed, they are merely in the beginnings of a life journey they have chosen in order to play music as much and wherever possible. They hold strong to the fact that they have, on their own, with alittle help and support from friends and family, made it to this point of musical Independence trying to involve and invite as many artists, musicians, and friends to join their always evolving Circus of Gypsy Pirates. The world needs a wakeup call. A wake up call of realization of where we were, where we are, and where we are taking ourselves, be it in Society, Environment, Love, Family, Truth. A new truth using knowledge and history needs to be created making this Mental Revolution a fact and a change in all lives.

Using their Live Performances as their greatest ammunition they are always true to their cause and selves in the past 8 years having with shows from Montreal to Vancouver in many memorable events and venues including Bumpers (RIP) the favorite Dominion Tavern in Ottawa, the National Arts Gallery if Canada, Scumbala Music Festival in Salmo B.C. and the Cobalt in Vancouver B.C.

The next physical direction Clepto will be taking is a drive across the US ending up in Southern California where they will make it heir new temporary home to Punk Rock their way and make sure everyone hears!
