BIO

Bio

Devoted to the band and each other, Clepto was formed in 2000 in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The four members of the band found themselves in the Middle East as their families moved there for employment. Fred and Phil, two brothers originally from Cyprus, with Armenian and Lebanese ethnic backgrounds, adopted Canada as their home in 2002. Canada is where both Alex and Nick were born and lived before leaving home for Saudi Arabia. Alex, a Portuguese-Canadian, Montreal born Punk Rocker and Nick, a Greek-Canadian, Winnipeg born Metalhead both lead the way with their lyrics covering everything from culture, global issues, religion, to personal conflicts and psychological reflections of themselves within society. Together, with a sing and a bounce from Phil and Fred’s Mediterranean melodic bass and drums, they all complete Clepto.

Alex

Alex: Lead Vox - Rhythm Guitar

In Clepto, like in all families, there is always the father figure; this is Alex. The serious solid no-nonsense rock of the band (literally and musically), he brings his Punk-rock lyrics and rhythm guitar to the table honest and proud. Finishing high-school in Saudi Arabia, Alex finished CGEP in Montreal where he has been living and working for the last 5 years in an IT company. Alex is always the person in the band that all members seek approval from as he carries a sense of rationale and simplicity that always makes things right. Serious and conservative when not on stage Alex is anything but that under the spotlight, leading the band in all the shows with his blunt sense of humor and effective crowd control.

Nick

Niko:  Lead Vox - Lead Guitar

Above all, Nick loves music, more specifically, all things heavy metal. Nick has devoted years of his life to the study and perfection of his skill with the guitar. Without any formal education in this instrument, Nick has learned everything he knows because he learned by ear. Hours a day are spent learning, evolving and understanding every nuance of the guitar. Nick is also an important source of creative output for Clepto. Always writing, always creating and always bringing new material to the table. In addition to his creative prowess, in the past five years Nick has accrued degrees in both sound engineering (Raven Studios, Ottawa) and video editing (Tara Academy, Toronto), to further Cleptos’ goals of self sufficiency by being able to record, edit and produce their own music, while moving forward in the media space through video editing and production, which will soon be used for both marketing and commercial purposes. All of this makes Nick an invaluable member of Clepto.

Fred

DSCN3120
Freddie: Backup Vox - Bass

Fred is easily the beating heart of Clepto. Freddie has an ambition to create music, to make sure that he finds live shows for his band, and always keeps an optimistic outlook on life. He actively uses this ambition and optimism to propel Clepto ever forward, always thinking of new ways to to market the band, to procure new shows, and just keeping everyone busy in general. As a musician, Freddie plays both the guitar and bass, always plucking away at one of the two whenever he has spare time. In February of 2007, Freddie had the pleasure of attending Victor Wooten Bass camp, having to shine through hundreds of other applicants. It was an experience of a lifetime and one he still speaks of to this day. In 2009, Freddie graduated from Carleton University with a Bachelors Degree of Arts in Music with a concentration in Sonic Design. Freddie has an amazing way with people, a skill he uses to great effect, establishing contacts within any given musical scene, whether it be local, or hundreds of miles away. A great musician, and a visionary, Freddie is the person who keeps Clepto moving.

Phil

DSCN3121
Phil: Drums

Philip is Cleptos’ balance. He is a man that despises being restrained, and strives above all things, to be free. An artist to the core, he loves music, art and culture. Along with being the band’s drummer, and designated cook, he also plays guitar, bass and the piano. In 2006, Phillip graduated from Carleton University in Ottawa with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Bachelors in Economics. Phillip wishes to blend his never-ending thirst for music and travel into a career. He will not be satisfied until his passions for life become synonymous with his livelihood. His tranquility, and zest for life, is what keeps Clepto calm, grounded and focused.

NEWS

The Reacharound

Hey Everyone!

Its been a little while so we’d like to give everyone a heads up as to where we’re at! We had an awesome kick off to the tour with a week spent riding with our good buddies Tartar Control! Playing shows in Lompoc, CA at Grindhouse Gaming, El Rio in San Francisco, Eli’s Mile High Club in Oakland, The Caravan Lounge in San Jose, and finally, the Burnt Ramen in Richmond! It was an amazing time with some very good friends, and we’re lucky that we get to fit in one last trip up to the East Bay before we took off! Thank you so much to everyone in California who has been good to us, given us a place to stay, food to eat, drugs to imbibe, and friendship to cherish! We love you all and will see you soon!

After saying our last goodbyes to California, we hit the road to Vegas, playing a show at East Side Joes, an awesome venue where the kids went wild! After that, we comouflaged Betty as best we could and risked a trip across the forbidden state of Arizona to play a show for the patrons of Rips Cocktail bar in Phoenix. Then we headed off to New Mexico for some late night Easter dinner with some old friends, and Niko even robbed an old lady! When we were done relaxing and having fun, we headed over to Bert’s Tiki Lounge and played for a bunch of old and new friends!

After Albuquerque, we started on the way to The Lone Star State to play a show in Austin at the Frontier bar when disaster struck! Betty’s rear differential broke and we were left stranded three hours from Austin. Lucky, we met a very friendly and helpful tow truck driver who agreed to get us, Betty and the trailer all the way to Austin in time for the show! While Betty was still in the middle of surgery in Austin, we rented ourselves a truck to get us to Reno’s Chop Shop in Dallas! After playing at Reno’s Betty was finally ready to get back on the road again, and we stopped off in Houtson for a show at Notsouh’s. Finally, we said goodbye to the Lonestar State and headed out to the charming city of Lafayette, Louisianna for a show at the Wild Salmon. Thank you to Larry for the amazing food, and excellent company! We appreciate all the hospitality, and all the love we recieved in our time there.

After heading out of Louisianna, we were treated to an awesome time at the squeaky lizard, in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Then, we got an awesome opportunity to play at the Hard Rock Cafe in Destin Florida! Last night, we played a show at the Plughouse in Columbus Georgia, and it was awesome! Keep tuned in, we’ve got lots more stuff coming up!

Get Fucked, Let’s Rock

Friday, October 28th 2011

So a quick word on whats coming up for Clepto! We have three shows coming up over Halloween weekend. First up, we have a show tonight at Bananas in Fullerton!. Saturday, we’re piling into Betty and heading on north up to Ventura county for some dudes backyard Halloween party! Lastly, Sunday we’ll be back in Orange County hitting up our favorite bar this side of the Canadian/US border, the World Famous Doll Hut! This one is gonna be fuckin nuts, doors open at 2pm. Bring your costumes and drink a fuckton of beer!

Also, being that we have a brand new, shiny studio at our disposal, aside from our newest album, we’re going to be working on side project that we’ve had in mind for some time - our Get Fucked Lets Rock compilation album! We’ve sent the word out to some of our favorite bands that we’ve met ever since we took to the road, and have asked them all to contribute a song to the comp. This is DIY at its finest, bands will either be putting down the songs themselves and sending em over, or, coming into our studio and recording the songs with us here at the studio! We’re exited to see how it turns out, and we’re currently working on getting our contribution to Get Fucked Lets Rock, recorded and released! Stay tuned for a list of bands that’ll be on the record in the near future, and see you at the show, motherfuckers!

Last up for the month of October, on the 30th, we’ll be playing yet another Halloween show at the Doll Hut hosted by our good friends at Homeless One Productions.

The Celebration of 4 Begins!!!

September 8th, 2011

Its already the beginning of a new month, and we can’t believe that the summer is over! Here’s what went down last month. We went up to the East Bay playing shows in Bakersfield with our buddies Hooker Spit and we hit up Fresno and partied with the Pyrate Punx! Once again, we hit up one of our favorite bars in California, Alex’s BBQ! Thanks for the ribs and the free drinks! We would like to extend our thanks to the Oakland Pyrate Punx for hooking us up with a totally badass show at the Hazmat!! We’ve been waiting a long time to play there and we were not disappointed in the least. The highlight of the tour, was of course, the wedding we played in Geyserville for a group of very close friends. Clepto loves a wedding, and holy shit, what a kickass party! We wish the bride and groom the best of luck, and all the happiness in the world! We are honored to have played for you guys!

Unfortunately, Niko had to leave soon after the end of the tour due to a family emergency, but fear not! He is scheduled back very soon! We miss him and it will be awesome to have him back. Alex needs a break from trying not to fuck up all the time. In the meantime, the Clepto three piece has been playing on, most recently at the World Famous Doll Hut! It was an awesome show with our friends Pottymouth and Andy D and the confused little girl. There were viking helmets, giant used tampons, chickens and a blow up doll. Thanks so much to Ryan from Big Wheel Magazine for coming out to the show!

As for shows coming up, there is only one show left where you’ll be able to see the Clepto three piece and that’s this Saturday at the Rock4Unity event at the Doll Hut! We’re on at 8:45 and if you’re not there, we’re making fun of the size of your penis. Come on down on Saturday and rock out with all the other awesome acts: The Chuck Dukowski Sextet, Piss n’ Blood, No Victor, The Trash Monsters, The Shrine and Death on the Radio. After that, Clepto’s back in full force and hitting Hollywood, and this time, we’re heading to the strip club! We have a show at Cheetahs in Hollywood, so bring your reading glasses and a fistfull of dollar bills! After that we’re playing an awesome show at Etnies Skate Park in Lake Forest with: Indian Burn, Thing with Two Heads and the Uncivil – bring your skateboard! Lastly, on the 28th of September, Clepto will once again join forces with the most hardcore, kickass, golly gosh darn mormons that we’ve ever seen - Tartar Control! Faster, Harder

Hello Everyone!

The last few weeks have been pretty crazy for us! Firstly, we have been interviewed by Punk Globe Magazine! Ginger was kind enough to give us a spot in this months edition, and we feel honored to get to talk about ourselves, ha. We also recently recorded and released our song Through the Night! Check it out right here in our player and come celebrate a little sex with us. A couple weeks back we also did an interview with the lovely ladies of the Bad Betty Podcast! We talk culture, anal, and what the shattered world economy has done for the price of oral sex. Check it out! And last but not least, we had the pleasure of getting onto Flashrock’s radio show! It was a pleasure to see all the guys in the studio, and had an awesome time rocking the fuck out! Check it out here.

Not Dead Yet

Whats up ladies and gentlemen?!
Right now, we’re all chilling in Irvine, California finally getting in a bit of a detox after a crazy few weeks. Number one, our van Bhad Betty was the victim of a hit and run accident, and we had to fork over some cash to get her all fixed up because insurance companies are a bunch of crooked motherfuckers who only pay if WE cream someone else. Go figure. Anyways, we would like to extend a very warm THANK YOU to our friends Alex the Artist and Tracey for the awesome party they threw on Friday night! I don’t remember any of it, but I had a friggin’ sick time. And we even managed to raise some money for our upcoming tour up to the bay area. Its coming together very nicely and we have our awesome friends throughout San Diego, and the Bay Area to thank for how easy they’re making it for us.
We also had a great time at the metal show at the Doll Hut on Saturday - EVERYONE should login to Facebook and look up Homeless One Productions and GO TO THEIR SHOWS and support the scene. Also, a shout out to the Barb Wire Dolls - we played a show with them at the Doll Hut - they’re awesome people and their band is punk as fuck. As always, if you haven’t gone and grabbed our albums yet, what the hell are you waiting for?! Itunes, lastFM, amazon.com - they’re all there online and waiting, calling for you to get em. So do that! Oh and make sure that you check out our latest episode of Clepto Goes to America : Welcome to South Central LA! - Click here to check it out!

Love you all, keep checking back for news, vids and music!

Hello from San Diego

Hey everyone!
Straight to business. First off, tomorrow, January 26th, we’ll be playing our first ever strip club show at the Pure Platinum in San Diego! It’s always been a dream of ours to mix our music with live nudity and now, it’s totally happening. All of us are freggin’ stoked, and we hope that all of you will come down and join us in all the fun. Also, coming up on the 2nd of February, we have an awesome show lined up with the Barbed Wire Dolls at the Doll Hut in Anaheim California - these guys are up and comers all the way from Greece, so if you can, come down and check out the show, should be a great time.

We’re also planning on taking a trip up to San Francisco in a few months and our very good friend Alex the Artist has setup a chipin page where you can donate some money to send us up to the bay area. Anything helps, and we appreciate all of your continued support! Click here if you would like to donate.

And of course, lastly, we have our albums up for sale at multiple online retailers including Itunes and LastFm, if you guys have checked out clepto.net and liked our tracks, buy our music and keep us going!! And if you just NEED to have a hard copy in your hands it’s as easy as coming to one of our shows and asking one of us for a CD!

Take care all, and don’t forget, BOOBS.

Seasons Greetings!

Hello all!

Its been a crazy month and we’re still going strong. We’ve been focusing all our attention on Southern California. San Diego, Lake Elsinore, Lake Arrowhead, Riverside are just a few of the places we’ve been playing in the past month. There’s been drunkenness, sickness, sleeping on the beach, sleeping on the floor, a radio interview and even a bar fight. We’ve also uploaded two new videos, but have had some technical problems getting them uploaded here, so for your convenience, here is links to both:

Episode 2.5: Stay Tuned and Episode 3: Manifest Destiny

So, here’s what we’ve got coming up in the next few weeks leading into December. First, Clepto is headed back to Anaheim for a show at the Doll Hut on Saturday November 6th, should be an awesome show! Also, we’re hoping to nail down some details about taking a trip up to the bay area for a couple of shows in mid November. Stay tuned for updates there. Also, very important, and very awesome, at the end of the month, November 26th, we’re heading over to WPMD radio show Pancakes and Punk for the second time to play a live set in the studio! All of us are really looking forward to it. YOU, yes YOU had better get your ass up at 9am on that Friday to listen to us, and if you’re at work at that time, then hell, you already have nothing better to do than tune in anyway, right?

Lastly, we are fucking psyched to announce that December 2nd at Slyde bar in Fullerton, CA we somehow managed to book our asses a show with the Voodoo Glow Skulls!! We really hope to see you guys there, it should be an awesome show. That’s it for us, folks, we’ll talk to you guys very soon with updates as they come along.

A Message from clepto

Many things are being planned. The circus is about to set sail and will conquer and pillage. This Recipe For Explosives will be Raining Knives once the Pirates descend from the snow covered North and the deserts of the East. Not even Lucifer will be able to save you from these Rebels Without Applause as they will take you through their Lava Land of Letters. Believe and accept the Aristopathic sounds that will not let you escape. We are here as we are Not Dead..Yet -Sonic Rape
